About

Working with The Lumen Prize a UK based art prize that celebrates the very best art created with technology through a global competition, exhibitions and events worldwide, Humber Street Gallery is proud to present “Measures of Life” a new exhibition that questions time and space and the elements that define how we perceive reality. In our hyper-connected world, new realities become malleable and flexible offering more possibilities than ever before. As we become more defined by the data we create, how does this affect our self-worth or the way we look at each other? Can a relationship blossom amid mass digital surveillance?  Do we ever really die online?  As our cities get smarter, what will they learn about our habits what control can be passivity exerted over us? If we are collectively training the machines of the future through our actions, how will they react to what they see and hear?

The artists taking part in this exhibition tackle these questions through innovation and a variety of digital media, from robotics to augmented reality, giving shape to the diverse ways we can live with technology.

The exhibition will present works by eight Lumen Prize winners and finalists, ::vtol:: (RU), Rachel Ara (UK), Stanza (UK), Molly Soda (US) Nicole Ruggiero (US), Refrakt (DE), Carla Gannis (US) and Anna Ridler (UK).
