Debut solo exhibition by Christopher Gray.
About
Former boxer Christopher Gray explores the lust for fictional violence in mainstream cinema through his unique brand of model making and puppetry. The artist transforms his hands by attaching prosthetic limbs to his fingers, replicating human figures in brutal conflict to mesmerising effect. Often working with unusual materials such as chicken skin, Gray has spent over 40 years refining his methods.
The Dumas Complex is the culmination of an intense 50-day artist residency at J HAMMOND PROJECTS. Gray has made two films about Dumas, an artist tormented by his tempestuous relationship with his muse. Dumas finds relief through bare-knuckle boxing, but his most compelling desire evokes his greatest fear.
Visitors are invited to enter the artist's den, pass through film sets and discover contorted puppet heads and macabre sketches. WARNING: This exhibition contains material unsuitable for children.
