The Container Project transforms a shipping container into an immersive project space for the Festival. Positioned outside Portsmouth Cathedral, the container is in the heart of Old Portsmouth, close to the waterfront.

About

The space will host the oral story-telling exhibition from local migrants, new and old, provide a canvas for live graf ti painting, and host an exciting digital drumming project from The Gambia.

In Portsmouth, the Festival presents urban artist N4T4 who will spray the outside of the Container with a mural inspired by the theme of ‘Unity’ in collaboration with local artist Fark. Come and see N4T4 at work on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st October, 10am - 5pm.

Inside the Container, Journeys Festival International is thrilled to present two exciting exhibitions:

Journeys to Portsmouth

Learn about how Portsmouth has welcomed its new residents in this unique audio-visual documentary exhibition.
The exhibition consists of a series of oral stories that were recorded as part of the Journeys to Portsmouth project. Across the summer, the project introduced established migrants living in Portsmouth with refugee and asylum seekers new to the city. Together they discussed topics of home, feelings of belonging and welcome in the city, whilst exploring the city and learning about Portsmouth’s extraordinary heritage.
Created in partnership with Friends Without Borders and supported by British Red Cross.

Alongside Spearman Journeys Festival International is also hosting drumming performances by Drum Nation, Tony Spencer and West African Master Drummer Khalifa Conte.

Artists Tony Spencer, Kye Wilson and renowned British Photographer Vanley Burke will also host an artist's talk, discussing themes of tribal solidarity, existentialism, African culture identity, migration and integration in Africa to Diaspora // Portsmouth

We will have a fantastic performance from local women’s singing groups Allunde & Africappella // Portsmouth who will be performing inside Portsmouth Cathedral on Tuesday 24th October.

Another perfomance not to be missed, students from Admiral Lord Nelson School at the Container will perform a dance in
