The Directors of Fabrik Gallery look forward to welcoming you to the Opening of Dutch artist Wessel Huisman’s “The Colour of Light – Urban Landscapes in Memories of Light”.
About
In this new series, the familiar urban cityscapes of Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing serve as platform for light and its interplay among architectural forms. Come and learn what inspires his stunning works.
The artist uses ‘light memories’ to create a sense of a distant time and space while in the present, transposing these upon urban facades rendered in the figurative. Abstract features in the form of lines, strokes and rectangles are then added to give his work an extra depth, rhythm and movement.
The artist uses mostly black and white to create layer upon layer of shades of grey. In this new series, the artist has incorporated shades blue and red in order to specify the “mood” of the light. The title of the series, “The Colour of Light,” reflects this change of approach.
Huisman’s works have been exhibited throughout Europe, Asia and the USA. He is the 2013 winner of the Florence Biennale’s “Lorenzo IL Magnifico” prize. Private collectors include the Dutch Royal Family and corporations such as Heineken. His works have also been commissioned by Holland America Cruise lines.
