In this Alan Kingsbury's fourth solo show, he celebrate The Wallace Collection with twelve large scale canvases.

About

Alan Kingsbury RWA has loved The Wallace Collection from his student days, not only for the quality of the pieces displayed, but also for the way the pieces are exhibited and lit with rich contrasting fabrics in the original rooms.

In these twelve large scale detailed studies, the artist highlights his mastery of detail and juxtaposition with one of the finest collections of French porcelain, paintings and furniture from the eighteenth century outside France.  His compositions retain a domesticity, reminiscent of Nicholson, and a minute observation of texture and colour, whilst being painted on a grand scale. The works have a contemporary feel with vigorously worked paint and closely cropped images, with the work needing to be viewed from afar for optimum effect.

'For me, Alan is undoubtedly one of the greatest figurative painters of his generation. In an age when the London commercial scene is annually suffocated by the numbing homogeneity of the latest Florentine graduates, Alan's paintings and talent scream integrity and substance.' Matthew Hall
