The Empire Project is holding its first exhibition of 2022 with Merve Tuna's exhibition opening on February 10 at The Küçük Mustafa Paşa Hammam. "The Case Of O: Scenes, Formulations, Derivatives", This exhibition realized with the contributions of Mermeriş, will be open until March 12, 2022.

About

The exhibition venue The Historic  Küçük Mustafa Paşa Hammam built in the 15th century, which has hosted the 14th and 15th Biennials in the past, serves as an active collaborative element in Merve Tuna's "The case of O" exhibition, beyond being a stage of the exhibition.

The exhibition is a tracing by Tuna of Freud's psychosexual developmental stages and explores the childhood origins of masochism and object fetishism. In her own words, she attempts to look at sexuality from a childishly playful and gender-neutral point of view.  It examines concepts related to shame, "jouissance" (Lacan), unconscious fantasy, pleasure and the body.

“Merve Tuna’s exhibition The Case of O: Scenes, Formulations, Derivations, is equally about bodies, objects, and stories.Walking through the various rooms of the exhibition, namely the genital, phallic, anal and oral rooms, you are surrounded by objects that are extensions, insertions, additions, stories of and references to the human body. You see bodies everywhere, very few in the form of human bodies.

While testing the limits of Merve Tuna (herself and all the bodies that roam the rooms and spaces of the bath), she challenges the ideas of where this shame comes from as well as how it can be transformed. In doing so, he positions contemplation of pleasure as a liberating practice outside of a body. “ Excerpted from the text written by Deniz Kırkalı on the exhibition.

“The Case Of O: Scenes, Formulations, Derivations”, can be seen at the Historic Küçük Mustafa Paşa Hamam between February 10 and March 12.
