Strangelove: moving image festival presents a screening of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari accompanied by a live score by Matt Harding.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, a 1920 silent horror film directed by Robert Wiene, is one of the most influential films of the German Expressionist movement. The film has a surprisingly modern aesthetic and Matt Harding has created a score with a contemporary feel by using field recordings, samples and electronic instruments alongside more traditional guitar and keyboards. Matt Harding has released 5 albums with Heavenly and Moshi Moshi and has just completed his first film soundtrack.
This performance complements the Central Saint Martins Museum and Study Collection’s exhibition of 1920s German Film Posters which can be seen in The Crossing between 16th March and 10th April.
