Duration: 90 Minutes

Description:

The lecture performance ›The Act Of Doing Makes It (Feel Like) Becoming‹ explores the paradox of humans simultaneous singularity and plurality. The interaction between performer and audience functions as the starting point of the performance by addressing the illusionary obsession of the inimitability in a pluralised society. Throughout the performance the gallery is being transformed into a poetic-philosophical workshop connecting spoken and sung word, movement study and scenographic demonstrations. Within the 90 minutes the performers analyse the concept of the ›Self‹ together with the audience, raising questions like: When are we Self and when are we ›Other‹? What's the agency of a hybrid human being in the post-digital era? Does one loose part of the Self by removing body hair? What's the difference between dependence and loss of self?

Bio:

Monika Gabriela Dorniak is an interdisciplinary artist with a background in textile, psychology, and performance, exploring the structures of the Self through a multifaceted analysis of body, mind and environment, by taking into consideration the regressive history of the domination of nature, specifically on the example of the female body-mind. The ongoing collaboration with dancers underlines her explorations of the impact of culture and technology on the human body. She has presented her works at Arts Catalyst in London, Tate Exchange in Tate Modern London, Foreign Affairs Festival in Berlin, Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center in Ramallah. Artistic commissions include her recent work with refugees at Our Blood, initiated by British artist Marc Quinn.
