‘Essence’ celebrates 60 years of the 62 Group of Textile Artists.
The Knitting & Stitching Show is well known for its inspirational Textile Galleries and this year play host to the 62 Group in it's anniversary year.
About
The 62 Group of Textile Artists was formed 60 years ago in 1962 and was originally known as the 62 Group of Embroiderers. It was originally created to act as a support for its members and to promote textile art through exhibition, education, and the exchange of ideas.
The 62 Group still aims to innovate and inspire but it has expanded its scope away from only embroidery, to include all forms of the textile discipline. This exhibition, Essence, explores the diversity, skill, and creativity of textile art within the group in 2022.
Members were asked to create work within the size constraints of 30 x 30 x 30cm, distilling their work into a compact format. The works on show demonstrate what it is that motivates and drives each artist in their practice - its ‘essence’, from the fundamental ideas behind it, to processes or materials that are essential to their practice.
In addition to showcasing the individual talents of member artists, this exhibition serves to mark what constitutes textile art in 2022.
