About
Irene Wedell, loved Life and enjoyed tea. The last moments of her very intense life were spent over a cup of Tea. Alone. We take this Event as a point of Discussion about her work, and her Life. The works displayed in the exhibition » follow me« talk about maybe the personal view, more so the societal environment for Women in Germany. In the 1960s it was already difficult for the young woman to lead a self-determined life, especially as an artist. Not even in her husband's '68 circles. She did not experience the great liberation here, but a repetition of the deadlocked gender roles. How far have we come at all?
The exhibition invites you to experience her work alongside the story of her life which has recently been published as a Novel »Tante Helene und das Buch der Kreise« by Martin Beyer.
Specially displayed and personally shown at 15:30 - would be three exclusive single piece Artists Books by Irene Wedell.
