A participatory performance of traditional tea ceremony in a pitch black room.
Participatory performance where a Japanese tea ceremony master entertains up to two visitors a session in a small pitch black room, complete with the traditional tea ceremony paraphernalia including tea bowls, a wall hanging scroll and flower arrangement. Authentic Japanese maccha tea and sweets served. Performance at 4pm, 4:30pm, 5pm and 5:30pm on Saturdays 9, 16, 23 June and 7, 14, 21 July. Contact gallery for confirmation: news@yamamotokeiko.com The artist will post a formal hand-written invitation to those whose participation is confirmed. The performance is part of the gallery’s solo exhibition of Yoi Kawakubo, ‘I/body/ghost’ centred around the theme of non-physicality of phenomena. The visitors are invited to reflect over the value of art works (tea bowls, etc.) : do the values stay the same even when they are not visible? It is also an introduction to an other-worldly experience with enhanced senses of touch, taste, hearing as well as deformed sense of time. www.yamamotokeiko.com
