Be Smart About Art will visit Deconstructing Patterns, Art + Science in Conversation at the Francis Crick Institute. The Crick is a new type of biomedical research institute. The exhibition provides a glimpse into three intricate developmental patterns studied at the Crick.

About

Deconstructing Patterns is the result of three unique artist commissions, which were developed through extensive conversations and close collaborations with Crick researchers. Bryony Benge-Abbott, Public Engagement Manager (Exhibitions) will talk about the exhibition, it’s curation and the process of creative collaboration for the artists and scientists. Rosie Waldron, Events Programme Manager will provide insight into the Crick’s events programme including art-science workshops.

Join us to engage in a fascinating discussion + experience a poetry and soundscape piece by Sarah Howe and Chu-Li Shewring, view a sculpture and film by Helen Pynor and a film created by young filmmaking group KaleiKo.

Bryony Benge-Abbott:

In her role as Public Engagement Manager (Exhibitions), Bryony both curated and project managed the current exhibition Deconstructing patterns: art and science in conversation. She comes from an art and heritage background, having undertaken an undergraduate degree in Fine Art (Painting) at Bath Spa University and an MA in Museology at the University of East Anglia. Bryony joined the Crick early in 2016 to set up the institute’s exhibition programme. She previously worked on exhibitions at Wellcome Collection, The Women’s Library, V&A Museum of Childhood and Brent Museum and brings a keen interest in visual storytelling to engage the public with complex, often multi-layered narratives.

Rosie Waldron:

As Public Engagement Manager (Events) Rosie manages the Crick’s public events programme, including film screenings, discussion events, art-science workshops, festivals and Lates. Prior to this, she worked at the British Science Association, where she managed the programme for the British Science Festival, and she has spent several years developing and delivering public engagement events at the Natural History Museum and Imperial College London. Rosie also spent a year working in science television production and has an academic background in neuroscience and a Masters in Science Communication.

About the Event:

With arrivals starting at 6.30pm, all attendees will be invited to browse the exhibition as well as talk with Bryony Benge-Abbott, Rosie Waldron and BSAA Founder and Managing Director Susan J Mumford. At about 7.15/30pm we will invite Bryony and Rosie to provide insight into the exhibition, the institutes programming and work with artists and larger vision. This will be followed by Susan’s top three networking tips for professionals in the art world. There will be plenty of opportunity for mixing and mingling, as well as the viewing of art on display.

Note that arrivals are welcome at any time between 6.30pm – 8.30pm
