Swab Barcelona brings together galleries, curated projects, and collection programs to showcase emerging talent in contemporary art.

About

Founded in 2006 by private collector Joaquín Díez-Cascón, Swab Barcelona remains true to its initial goals of breaking with the elitist and hermetic idea that often surrounds the contemporary art scene and making it accessible to the general public, while supporting young artists, galleries, and curators looking to break into the art market.

It is a place to discover the most innovative artistic proposals and meet the local and international artists from all disciplines who are pushing the boundaries of expression and tracing the course of the art scene for coming years.

In 2017, Swab Barcelona celebrates its 10th anniversary edition, welcoming around 80 galleries from 5 continents, close to 20,000 visitors, and a large number of curated programs, prizes, and activities that venture beyond fair walls to bring art to the Barcelona locals.

This year's selection committee is comprised of collectors: Harold Berg, economist and member of the photography committee of the Whitney Museum of American Art; Susanne Birbragher, Art Nexus commercial vice-director; Giuseppe Casarotto, engineer and president of the ClubGAMeC of Bergamo; and Alfredo Hertzog, president of Hertzog Art Business; along with: Domenico de Chirico, independent curator, Albertine de Galbert, independent curator, arte-sur.org founder and cultural cooperation projects manager; David Armengol, independent curator; and Marisol Rodriguez, cultural journalist and independent curator.
