The team at Experience Art Events are delighted to introduce two new contemporary art fairs in 2019 located within the beautiful UK Sussex Counties:

About

Sussex Art Fairs (West) at Goodwood Racecourse from the 17th -19th May 2019
Sussex Art Fairs (East) at Brighton Racecourse from the 11th - 13th October 2019

The inaugural Sussex Art Fairs (West) will take place at the world renowned Goodwood Racecourse in the heart of the picturesque Sussex Downs.

Throughout the two main halls of Goodwood Racecourse, visitors will find 1000s of talented artworks from over 100 carefully selected artists and galleries all available for purchase. The first hall will have 20 Gallery and Artist Collective Stands, and the second hall will include 80 up-and-coming and established Independent Artists (local, national, and international) all of whom you will be able to meet to make the art buying experience that little bit more special.

Taking place over 3 days, the event starts on the Friday evening at the ticketed Private Viewing, where visitors will be able to browse their favourite artwork(s) with drinks from our full bar and be the first to view exhibitors' beautiful collections before the event is open to the general public over the weekend. The fair will then be open all weekend for visitors to find that special work of art for their homes or offices.

Prices of art start from as little as £50 for prints and smaller works, to over £5,000 for an outstanding masterpiece, so there will be something to suit every budget and every type of art buyer. All purchases will be wrapped by our specialist wrapping team ‘artPAKK’ located near the exit.

To make the visit more pleasant, our fair facilities include a coat check on arrival, a full café serving teas, coffees and snacks over the weekend and tidy toilet facilities. The venue is wheelchair accessible and small dogs are also welcome, which we ask to be carried whilst inside the venue.

In order to give back to the local community, Sussex Art Fairs will be collaborating with the Sussex Wildlife Trust by having original artworks donated by our exhibitors for sale with all profits going to the Trust. The Sussex Wildlife Trust is a conservation charity, and the money raised at the fair will continue to protect the wonderfully rich wildlife that is found all around the Sussex towns, countryside and coast. We are excited for them to be part of the fair and hope you check out their stand as well as the amazing artists and galleries on show.

Being the first of its kind within the Sussex Counties, Sussex Art Fairs is the perfect place to begin your art collection, or indeed add to your collection if you are already a seasoned art enthusiast. All exhibitor details will be available to peruse within the limited edition brochure and online at our website sussexartfairs.co.uk. We look forward to welcoming everyone to what will be the first of many successful Sussex Art Fairs!

Questions & Answers

Who are Sussex Art Fairs?

Sussex Art Fairs was founded by Fraser, Oliver and Leah of Experience Art Events. Having identified the need and demand for large scale contemporary art fairs in the Sussex Counties and near the south coast, Sussex Art Fairs (West) and Sussex Art Fairs (East), were born. Both events aim to bring hundreds of exhibiting artists, galleries and artist collectives together to showcase their work under the roofs of two fabulous locations: ‘Glorious’ Goodwood Racecourse in West Sussex and Brighton Racecourse in East Sussex! The wide variety of carefully selected exhibitors coming from all over the Sussex Counties, Nationally and Internationally means all genres and price ranges will be for sale.

What can visitors expect?

Sussex Art Fairs (West) at Goodwood Racecourse from the 17th-19th May has been designed to tingle the senses of our visitors from the moment they arrive, continuing throughout their stay by offering art lovers and collectors the chance to purchase works from two main areas. ‘The Galleries Rooms’  will consist of Galleries and Artist Collectives showcasing carefully selected works by their most popular and established artists. ’The Artists Rooms’ will be curated by the SAF team to include established and emerging independent artists specialising in: Painting, Digital Art, Mixed Media Art, Photography, Sculpture, Glassworks and Ceramics. By having both independent artists and galleries at one fair, visitors will be able to choose suitably priced works for their new or ever-expanding art collections from the most exciting contemporary and traditional artists selling today.

Why did you decide to start the events in Sussex?

As both organisers and artists whom have organised multiple events in Central London and exhibited throughout the UK, we identified that the residents of both Sussex counties were missing their own large scale art events, and so Sussex Art Fairs was born. We wanted to make multiple genres and price ranges of art accessible to the residents of Sussex without them having to travel into the capital or search online to invest in collectible art. We are also keen for visitors from further afield to have a lovely day out appreciating the beautiful Sussex coast and countryside whilst investing in art and adding to or starting their own art collection.

This is your first art fair in Sussex isn't it?

Yes, Sussex Art Fairs (West) is our first event to be held at Goodwood Racecourse from the 17th, 18th and 19th May 2019. Our second Sussex event follows on 11th, 12th and 13th of October at Brighton Racecourse. Fraser has been a professional artist since 2017 when he first exhibited with and met Leah and Oliver at one of their art fairs in London. With his specialist background in Web Design and experience as an exhibiting artist, Fraser is combining his talents with Leah and Oliver’s almost decade-long experience running art fairs to create a unique visiting and buying experience for art lovers and buyers alike, looking for that unique piece to add to or begin their art collection. The team at SAF believe buying original art direct from the artist or representing gallery is a great way to invest in the future of the arts, and we hope Sussex Art Fairs make this an easy and friendly process for artists, galleries and visitors.

Why Goodwood and Brighton Racecourses and how did you come to choose the venues?

Both Goodwood Racecourse and Brighton Racecourse are very well known venues in the Sussex Counties and have the facilities to put on large scale events, with spacious rooms for the artists and galleries to showcase their exciting new works plus picturesque surroundings and plenty of free parking and WIFI for buyers, visitors and exhibitors. And let's face it, for our inaugural events, who wouldn't want to exhibit at and visit Glorious Goodwood or Brighton Racecourse? We believe that artists, galleries and our visitors will benefit from these two successful art events which we hope will become permanent fixtures in the UK Art Fairs’ calendar.

How do you choose who exhibits at your fairs?

Galleries and Independent Artists can apply through our website's application process at: www.sussexartfairs.co.uk/apply-to-exhibit. Our curation team then carefully invites a select amount of Galleries and talented Independent Artists from both the Sussex counties, Nationally and Internationally to exhibit. There is no set criteria as to whom we choose, rather, it’s a general feeling that a gallery, (and the artists they represent) or the independent artists, can showcase something of interest and value to the collectors and visitors coming to our fairs. Our final choice of exhibiting Galleries and Artists will include a variety of mediums, genres and price points so that there is a wide but curated selection of art for sale. We are very lucky to have some exciting talent at our inaugural event, including the awe-inspiring digitally mastered horse portraits by Riply Fine Art, the playful and very collectible animal drip paintings by Louise McNaught, the award-wining colourful abstract photographic work by Lin Osborn and the intricately detailed and collectible monochrome drawings (you won’t believe are drawings!) by Martin Turner. These are just a few of the highly skilled and in demand artists, galleries and collectives on show at Goodwood during the Sussex Art Fairs (West).

Are you already thinking about next year?

Like any good, reliable business we are always thinking to the future but also staying completely focused on the now by making sure that Sussex Art Fairs (West) in May 2019 followed by Sussex Art Fairs (East) in October 2019 are the most successful they can be for both our exhibitors and visitors. Our exciting plans for 2020 will be revealed later on this year - so watch this space!

What are your fair highlights?

Our fair highlights include our talented and collectible exhibitors, many of whom are Sussex based: Room with A View (Worthing), Forest Gallery (Petworth), The Dragon Gallery (Petworth), Angela Brittain, Catherine Barnes, Gayle Shapton, Robin Cooper-Hannan, Alan James-McLeod, Alison Ingram, Lesley Taylor, Alex Morris, Carol Wagstaff, Jo Willis, Susie Monnington, Hettie Pittman, Caroline Darke and our very own Sussex Art Fairs organisers, Fraser Renton and Leah Michelle. We are also excited to be showing talented artists: Martin Turner, Lin Osborn, Rachel Anderson, Dr Martín Raskovsky, Andy Walker and Ian Butcher.

Anything else you want to add?

We are pleased to announce we have partnered up with three excellent organisations that have the same ethos for supporting artists and improving the world around us. The first is Cass Art (Brighton), one of the leading brands of art supplies in Sussex and the UK. The second is Sussex Wildlife Trust who will have their own stand at Sussex Art Fairs selling work that has been kindly donated by our exhibitors with 100% of the sales from their stand going to their charity. The third is artPAKK who are leading the industry in creating the latest re-usable, eco-friendly art bags and we are lucky to have them manning our wrapping station. Our wall art buyers will be offered an artPAKK bag when purchasing works, so they can take their investment home safely and use again in the event of future transportation. Do come say hello to our partners as well as our gallerists and artists at the fair!
