’Surprise Party Every Week’ is an on-going collection of documentary photographs taken by Peckham-based Alistair Gibbs.
Documenting unsophisticated, raw and sometimes undecipherable messages observed in the street provides contrast to his professional career as a creative director for luxury fashion brands – the joy of the ‘amateur’ and accidental vs the constraint of the ‘professional’ and carefully contrived. Following the publication of a book of the same name, this exhibition draws together a selection of images presented as limited edition prints, risograph posters and a one-off vinyl recording.
The eponymous sign in the cover image was found in the window of a slot-machine arcade in Peckham, and conveniently sums-up the unusualness and frequency of the discoveries documented in the images.
