About
Daniel Stevens is a self-taught illustrator from Brazil and an emerging part-time artist. He works with ink and watercolour and is inspired by nature, botany, and landscapes. When he’s not painting or sketching, he works in the British Library for the Knowledge Quarter; a partnership of knowledge-based organisations in and around the King’s Cross area."Succulent Lover" is his first ever exhibition; the culmination of years’ worth of work. In it, he presents a series of different cactus and succulents – ranging from traditional illustrations to complete abstract representations. Works are in a range of sizes – from 8x9cm ‘Mini Cactus Worlds’ to the massive 60x84cm ‘Cactus Galaxy.’
Daniel is inspired by the sheer diversity of succulent species, their shapes and vivid colours. Some can be incredibly symmetrical whilst seemingly having organic almost unpredictable forms. In this perfectly timed exhibition for a hot British summer, Succulent Lover presents a snapshot and invites us to see cacti and succulents in a new and perhaps slightly unusual light.
