Subliminal Reflection

We are born, live and die beneath the moon. It is as vital to human life as the sun. But with the advance of human society, urbanisation and technological development, we can often forget the power that hovers above us all. From the beginning of human civilisation, the moon has been revered and it has been worshipped, praised and honoured. It marks the passage of time and seasons, the movement of water and blood, it even controls our brains. The world of mythology is rich with stories of the moon and this exhibition take its inspiration from the story of the Greek goddess Selene whose moon chariot passes across our sky. This exhibition turns our gaze back towards the moon, to reaffirm this ancient connection and reimagines this vision in a modern context using technology and interaction. The installation uses a brainwave scanner to generate patterns of moonlight on a pool of still water, thus reestablishing our relationship with the moon once more through thought and generative graphics. This bridge between subconscious and conscious thought and action reflects our own gaze towards the night sky and the flux of light, darkness and desires that pass between dream and reality. - - - Almost Silent (Hiroshi Ito, Jon C Flint, Katsuhiro Ito and Sung Ting Hsieh) are an interactive art collective with backgrounds in interior design, product design and literature. This is their first exhibition as a group, but they have exhibited individually in the past at places such as: Kinetica Art Fair (London), Japanese Junction (Tokyo), Chelsea College of Art and Design as part of the London Design Festival, Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and Shoreditch Town Hall. They started the collective to explore the themes and mythology of mankind's ever changing relationship with the moon.
