In her exhibiton 'Subaquatic', Hale Güngör Oppenheimer puts the images of houses she has gathered through her virtual strolls on Google Maps in Mollis, where her first memories of home were formed, into dialogue with the images of icebergs she has created.

About

Drawing a connection between icebergs, that have broken off of big masses and continue their existence as separate entities, much like the rocks she has used in previous series, and individuals that have drifted off of their home or homelands who do exactly the same, Oppenheimer presents the works in the exhibition in the form of an installation made up of polygonal Plexiglas frames.

Similar to the iceberg with 91% of its mass below the surface of the water, the majority of the meanings we attach to home also reside in the deeper levels of our consciousness according to Oppenheimer. With this reasoning, Oppenheimer divides the houses in her works into real and fictive parts when depicting our ever-changing memory.

Hale Güngör Oppenheimer (b. 1981) completed her BFA degrees at Parsons School of Design Paris in 2004 and Pratt Institute New York in 2009, as well as her MFA degree at Konstfack Stockholm in 2013. The artist has been living and working in Stockholm since 2010.
