An exhibition of paintings from the Stolen Time series by Richard Heys. Richard began this series of work in the first lockdown, in March 2020.
About
The exhiibition title “Stolen Time” relates to many things: the pandemic as well as the time that was gifted to us, as the whole world was forced to pause. The paintings were driven by the shocks and concerns of the pandemic and the crises faced by the world and the earth – fear of death and through this a greater connection to, and celebration of, life. There is an ecstasy to this series, a sense of drama and otherworldly visits – uncanny and essential.
I experienced these paintings as visitors - their presence was there with me, rolling through the studio like the rhythms of a great tide.

Richard Heys is a non-figurative painter who creates paintings with presence. He is based in a light-filled studio in Sussex in England, an acorn’s throw from the Ashdown Forest and creates his work using print-making tools, brushes and bespoke squeegees. He works to remould inner spaces, to invite attention to and engagement with surface and depth, outer picture and inner soul-space. He aims to create "the painting as a doorway".
Richard is represented by Clifton Fine Art in Bristol and his work is in private collections in the UK, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and the USA. Solo shows of his paintings have been held in the UK, Germany and Switzerland. In 2017 his work was chosen for the Creekside Open & the National Open Art Exhibition (both in London) and a number of his paintings were selected for the ING Discerning Eye competition in 2015, 2016 & 2021.
