About
An exhibition of art by Soft Wax, at the excellent Lion Vibes record shop, deep in the heart of Brixton Town. The Preview event for the show will be on Wednesday 9th May, from 5 until 7. The show will run from Tuesday 8th May for 2 weeks.
The show is of works inspired by Soundsystem Culture and Blues Dances. For the first time in some years, for this artist, the focus will be on affordable art. In addition to paintings on canvas, board and paper, there will be a limited number of a special edition of prints and postcards available. Nothing is priced into three figures.
Many of the images will be familiar to the South London massive, from promotional material for the legendary Deptford Dub Club. Familiar figures such as Prince Far I, Jah Shaka and D’Oxman feature in the paintings. The prints are from an original painting now owned by Tessa from The Slits.
Soft Wax says, "We’ve done historically themed, larger exhibitions for the last couple of years. So this is a fun orientated return to the source for us. An upful, modest show, to greet the Summer". Larger versions of many of the pieces on display are available on request. Commissions will also be taken.
