SMF 01: Jesper Carlsen 'Compositions'

Sierra Metro presents SMF, a film screening programme that will unfold over a period of eight months. Screenings will feature new work by artists who have previously exhibited work with Sierra Metro, and will take place both on-site and off-site, at venues and locations across Edinburgh. SMF does not aim to bring these works together in a format that encourages comparison, contrast or assimilation, but instead focuses on the single work format, granting each film considerable space and time for reflection. SMF 01: Jesper Carlsen - 'Compositions' Comprising 36,000 frames, Carlsen's ‘Compositions' explodes El Lissitzky's 1922 painting of the same title. In Carlsen's film the camera rotates slowly around the different elements of the painting, viewing each arrangement from many different angles. This will screen at 7pm on the BBC Big Screen on 20, 21, 22 October.
