Sri-Kartini Leet: I Dream of Home
14 April 9 May
Monday to Friday 10am until 4pm (closed 18 to 22 April and 5 May)
Private View: Thursday 24 April 5-8pm
I Dream of Home is a photographic exhibition by Dr Sri-Kartini Leet, Senior Lecturer in Photographic Practice at the University of Northampton, which explores ideas of âhome'. It has involved around ninety participant-contributors who are all associated with the University, but come from a range of backgrounds.
Each individual was asked to pose for Kartini in the studio, eyes closed, in reverie; they were also asked to reflect upon their own life experiences through photographs and to âdonate' an image they regard as symbolic of their idea of âhome'. This image could be one from their personal archives, or a new image made for the project - a photograph which conveys the essence of their relationship to a place or an idea of belonging.
I Dream of Home is fully supported by the partnership of Ashoka U and California-based PhotoWings as part of their Insights: Past, Present and Future through Photography project. A showcase of this work was displayed at Brown University, Rhode Island, USA in February 2014. An associated paper, âConstructing an Archive of the Intangible' will be presented at the Photography and Anthropology conference (Art, Archive, Text panel) organised by the Royal Anthropological Institute at the British Museum in May.
