Silent Witnesses

In this series of paintings especially made for her solo show at Seven Seven Contemporary Art, Caroline List documents the dying trees of the ancient Sherwood Forest. In her paintings which couple the memory trace of the photographic with a painterly surface and the heightened colour of oil paint, a visual journey through the remains of the forest landscape is suggested. In the triptych Silent Witnesses the sequence of paintings move from high key colour to a grey, monochromatic ghostly memory.
