Israeli artist Sigalit Landau caused a stir with her exhibitions in Barcelona, Berlin, Buenos Aires, New York, Paris and numerous other international locations. Now, the Wiener Festwochen present a comprehensive personal exhibition of her video work.
For the last two decades Sigalit Landau has been playing with boundaries. She moves them, she stretches them, she often loops them. Landau’s video retrospective in Vienna's Spring Festival is an opportunity to look at those boundaries up close and to explore the unique DNA of Landau’s work through her moving images. Known as a sculptor and an installation artist, Landau’s movies are usually read as part of her overall body of work. But a close look at the videos allows us to see that though no linear narrative is involved Landau is telling us a story. It is her story and it is the story of the place she comes from – a place which has always been in motion. A country which seems to be in a constant search and a constant loop, a country whose own identity and own boundaries are always challenged.
(excerpt by Vardit Gross, Curator and Artport Director)
Sigalit Landau will arrange the installations herself.
