How can a work of art in a display window grab the attention of hasty passers-by in a world full of images?
About
How can a work of art in a display window grab the attention of hasty passers-by in a world full of images? Such work must be original while simultaneously telling something about the images that our glance has gotten used to. Siemen Van Gaubergen asks himself which subjects have topical value for a painter. How can they be effected with contemporary instruments? To what degree does their physical aspect correspond with their virtual effect? Where does recognisability end and abstraction begin? To what extent does our perception influence what we see? Photography, graphic techniques and air brush replace conventional painting. (FL)
