Sheela Gowda (Bhadravati, Karnataka, India, 1957; lives and works in Bangalore) is considered one of the leading exponents of contemporary art in India and this exhibition is her first solo show in Italy.

About

Sheela Gowda's practice ranges from design to sculpture, to large-scale installations and sees the use of materials that often convey cultural values linked to the context from which they come. Her works, characterized by a strong plastic value, take as a starting point elements of modernism, reworked by the artist through production processes with strong ritualistic associations. In this exhibition she proposes two new productions and works created from 1992 to the present, including watercolours, prints and site-specific installations. The latter are characterized by a wide variety of materials - such as hair, organic substances, cow droppings, incense and natural pigments - and are presented in close dialogue with the iconic architecture of Pirelli HangarBicocca Navate.
