About

Join us for the opening:

Thursday 3rd November, from 6:30pm

Exhibition till 17th November
Open Saturday, Sunday, Monday 11am-6pm or by appointment

Security is Julian Bell's new set of figure paintings based on present-day life. Each pushes at how figures inhabit a rectangle of canvas. Other spaces for living get echoed - those designed to process people, and those inside our own minds.

The exhibition also represents the first London showing for paintings from Genesis, the sequence based on the biblical text that Julian Bell brought out last year in book form to much acclaim:

'How imaginative, how boldly original, how varied!' - David Carrier, ArtCritical

'Subtle plays of brilliance and variety in which the sheer magic of light is constantly breaking forth' - Jonathan Jones, The Guardian

Julian Bell has been based in Lewes, Sussex, for over thirty years, during which he has worked on many types of commission beside exhibiting internationally. He is also known for his writings for the London Review of Books and the New York Review of Books and for several books on art. This exhibition is by arrangement with St. Anne’s Galleries, Lewes.
