About
The artist presents an installation of his first ever ink drawings, depicting pubs he lived in and frequented as a child of a publican in the Medway town of Tonbridge. Some are impressions of photographs found while scouring www.dover-kent.com, others half-remembered tableaux from behind the bar. The old pub cellar that Piccalilli now occupies is a fitting and familiar site of digestion, for both material lifecycle performances and emotional hardship derived from complex family dynamics. His writing has been published in WeedsFeed by Sandra Kosorotova for Publics, Helsinki (Finland), Tender Order by Jade Monserrat for TOMA, Southend (UK), and Worry, Collect, Fold (translated by Max Weinland) for Kunstverein Luneburg (Germany). He has delivered public projects on fermenting with microbes for Liverpool Biennial (UK), the anarchist and peasant farmer solidarity network in Valencia at Pols (Spain), and regenerative landwork at Kreenholm Plants in Narva (Estonia). Roy is a Wysing Arts Centre Resident 2023-24, and is working towards his first poetry collection, In Digestion, due for publication spring 2024 with Monitor Books (London).
