Conceived by guest curator Jowonder, this will be an exciting insight by 21 artists who have been looking at Schrödinger's scientific theory of quantum mechanics within the conundrum of 'what is or isn't' the object in the box and in which state is it in, alive or dead?

About

Is it quantum superposition to subatomic events or, as the Copenhagen interpretation states, is it both alive and dead?

Schrödinger's Cat is a thought experiment to do with reality and the artists have created thought provoking interpretations to this theory in their work, which they have produced for us to think on in wonder.

The opening event, which you are warmly invited to, is listed on our events page on our website along with a talk later on in the month.

Jowonder, co-curator following her original idea, says:

The theme of the show is Schrodinger's Cat, a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. I wanted to curate a show which provided a place of freedom, where like Shrodinger's Cat we could be more than one thing at once - feel comfortable knowing that, we do not yet know.

I asked each artist to present their own take on the mystery, using holograms, installations, performance and painting. I have never seeing sharp divisions between science and art”.

Lorenzo Belenguer, one of the artists exhibiting, adds:

There is never a 100% certainty when attempting to position a quantum particle; there is a possibility, high or low, of that particular particle being in a specific area. In a society so obsessed with measuring and exactitude, I find this cavalier acceptance of uncertainty very liberating”.

TALK - Discussions about Schrödinger's Cat / Tom Rocks Maths and other key speakers all going to shed a light / Thursday 3rd March at 7pm at Bookery Gallerie / All wellcome
