About

A small group of works from members of the Insect Breeding Institute which look at how we can engage with insects as their population collapses globally.

In 2019 the new Insect Breeding Institute set up the School of Insects at Trumpington Park Primary School. From an initial Hijutsu: Mushiyose (Insect Gathering) of artists, scientists and teachers, a foundation course in Insect Aesthetics was proposed. Workshops with pupils were run, conversations were had between members of the Institute and local ecological surveys were undertaken before the COVID pandemic stopped on-site work in 2020. However, from this starting point ideas have multiplied and metamorphosed into a range of images and tools to explore insect sense.

Artists are: www.ruralrecreation.org.uk, Dr Alex Murdin, Klara Ravat, Prof John Levack Drever, Tess Tallula, Lorelei Lodestar, Carpenter Oak. Scientists: Charlotte Milbank, Matt Hayes & Kate Howlett from Cambridge University Museum of Zoology and Department of Geology and Rebecca Green Wildlife Trust.
