About
SACRED:Homelands Festival of performance is curated by the acclaimed Nikki Milican, former Artistic Director of New Territories and the National Review of Live Art.
Nikki defines this year’s inimitable line-up of international artists:
"Sacred - that which is sacred (to me and possibly to you). I’m against the profane and mundane, holding dear to that which should be venerated. Sacred can be what one holds dear in terms of artistic practice; what artists acknowledge in their culture and socio-political landscape.
Without compromising fervent artistic expression there, we need a place for healing and community in times of grave injustice and inequality. We’re honoured to present the first visits to London by international artists telling of lost communities, languages and culture; a search for homeland. A place where one is comfortable, safe...and at peace.”
The programme includes: Berlin (Belgium), Daina Ashbee (Québec), Nathalie Bikoro (Gabon), Inder Salim (India), James Luna (USA), Josephine Garcia Jowett (Philippines/NZ), Varsha Nair (India/Thailand) Elvira Santamaria (Mex/Ire), Latai Taumoepeau (Tonga/Aus), Urnamo (Iraq/Switz), Via Negativa (Slovenia) Zierle & Carter (UK).
SACRED Festival 2016: Homelands is produced by Francis Alexander, who curated the SACRED Festivals of live art at Chelsea Theatre 2006-2015 and curated by Nikki Milican, former Artistic Director of New Territories and the National Review of Live Art.
