This December S1 Studios artists are launching the first annual S1 Studios General Store, a temporary artist-led shop selling a wide range of affordable artworks by emerging and established artists in support of S1 Studios.
The S1 Studios General Store will occupy the main reception at the heart of S1 Artspace which will be transformed into a pop-up shop presenting for sale a variety of new and affordable artworks, limited editions and unique work by studio holders, local artists and S1 Artist Patrons.
The General Store will include a pop-up cafe hosted by Tamper Coffee and will present varied daytime and evening events including Saturday film screenings, a pub quiz and festive parties.
The S1 Studios General Store will offer a diverse selection of one-off pieces, limited editions including Christmas cards, customised sketchbooks and a range of S1 General Store branded accessories including limited edition tote bags and mugs.
Artists who have generously contributed artworks include Simon Bill, Simon and Tom Bloor, Tim Etchells, Sara MacKillop, Haroon Mirza, Paul Morrison, Ryan Mosley, Giles Round and Sarah Staton, representing a small selection of artists from our alumni, the region and our national network of established and emerging artists.
On Friday 30th November S1 Studios will launch their first collective limited edition Print Portfolio available exclusively from the S1 Studios General Store. The S1 Studios Print Portfolio presents limited edition artworks produced by eleven studio holders based at S1 Artspace including James Clarkson, Joseph Cutts, Jamie Crewe, Natalie Finnemore, Jerome Harrington, Jim Howieson, Hannah Knights, David McLeavy, Charlotte Morgan, Emily Musgrave and Roanna Wells. The Print Portfolio has been produced in a limited number of 50 and has been generously supported by APG Works, Sheffield.
Also available for sale are new print editions from Melissa Gordon and Jessica Warboys, and existing editions by Eva Berendes, Haroon MIrza and Paul Morrison.
All proceeds from the S1 General Store will go towards supporting and maintaining S1 Studios, allowing us to continue to sustain and develop our artistic community throughout 2013. For more information or to make any purchase enquires, please contact chloe@s1artspace.org.
Each week during December the S1 General Store will transform as we present rotating spot-light exhibitions by a selection of S1 Studios including David McLeavy & Roanna Wells, Jamie Crewe & Jim Howieson, Natalie Finnemore, Hannah Knights & Charlotte A. Morgan. When the General Store reopens in January there will be a selection of work on display from each exhibiting artist.
There will also be and pop-up stores from our special guests Hantu Collective, Article, and The Designers Republic. Items will be available for purchase for one week only.
Each Saturday from the 8th of December Tamper Coffee will be hosting a very special pop-up café providing the best coffees this side of Yorkshire at S1 Artspace.
The S1 Studios General Store will open on the 1st of December 2012 and continue through January, accompanied by festive events more information available here.
