About

ROMBAK - JURIED SHOW

Multimedia University (Malaysia)  will hold an international virtual event, entitled “ROMBAK”, which will take place from 16th November 2021 till 16th December 2021. This first edition has set its theme to be similar to its name – Rombak.

Rombak – which means “to reshuffle” in Malay, but also doubles as portmanteau for “resisting ombak” in our case – is about creative resilience. Through a virtual showcase of presenting digital artwork, Rombak celebrates the persistence of artistic creativity in reconfiguring and disrupting what is to come. In the weeks to come, we would like to invite artists and filmmakers whose works demonstrate stubborn tenacity of creative minds in pressing against the waves.

As we sail through trying times, Rombak seeks work that responds to the cycle of everydayness – banalities. We challenge artists and filmmakers to see banalities as a catalyst, examine and create visual artworks and moving images that breaks any sorts of norm.
