Meandering across 11 sites in the city over 2.5 miles, the trail involves local and international artists working across a range of mediums.
About
Artists include Christina Evans, Jethro German, Nicola Anderson, Kristi Minchin, Lalitha Bandaru, Billy Mather, Tom Westbury, Ashley David John, Isabella Rose Martin, Alys Scott Hawkins and Kirsty Smith creating both temporary and permanent installations.
ROAM utilises unusual spaces as well as regular places used daily by the public. Discover art in the trees of Palmerston Park and in billboards alongside Graham Cotton’s Bakery. The trail begins at K6 Gallery’s telephone boxes on Castle Way which play host to a series of photographs by Christina Evans, before working your way through the city centre parks into Northam passing Billy Mather’s new mural on Northam Social Club and through into St Denys where Cobden Bridge will offer the best the views of Isabella Rose Martin’s giant banner flowing alongside the Itchen River.
The route is best explored on foot or by bike, although you might also unintentionally stumble across artworks as you go about the city. The selected sites and artists have been chosen for challenging the way in which art might usually be viewed, helping to bring art outside the confines of a traditional gallery space into everyday life.
