Remade

About

Placed between the faction of two reprehensible and destructive powers, a morally grey individual finds a way to destroy both sides. The protagonist exterminates this bilateral structure by manipulating the environment. This is the political vision that Japanese director, Akira Kurosawa, imagined in the film Yojimbo (1961), and soon after lengthened into the film Sanjuro (1963). Typical of Kurasawa’s films, a binary situation is set where audiences witness both sides. 
 Remade is a solo exhibition by Mensur Bojda. His core concept for the show is a continuation of his investigations from a previous group exhibition, Let me go Father. His recent works explore the transference of ideas between originals and remakes. How does history change the context of certain images? What ends up persisting in the newer version, and how do these elements hint at the essence of the original?
 

Mensur Bojda’s engagement with this theme results in creating a two-sided surface separated by complementary colors and placing a figure with an imbalanced tendency to disrupt both sides of a diptych or triptych. Bojda constructs works influenced by noir class, Kurosawa’s films, and the recent Western remakes.
 
 
Mensur Bojda (b. Brod, Serbia 1986) is an artist currently based in New York. He is a figurative expressionist whose interest crosses disciplines such as painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, illustration, and comics. His works has been exhibited in Europe and recently in MC Gallery, New York.
