An exhibition of limited edition silkscreen prints by Alexander Johnson
About
This series of beautiful and luminous screenprints were inspired by aerial intelligence photographs taken by the artist’s father who served as a Spitfire pilot during WWII.
The photos were taken over Germany, Holland, the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa to provide intelligence for the allied forces. They were mainly photos of dockland areas, industrial centres and city street-plans. Alexander enlarged them, adding colour and reworking the patterns into abstract images, picking out runways, ports, street patterns, railway tracks and coastlines.
Alexander has also produced a new limited edition silkscreen print exclusively for this exhibition.
