A collection of oil paintings by London artist Edward Beale including French landscapes, Thames cityscapes and studies of flowers.
About
Edward Beale demonstrates how observation and traditional skills can lead to paintings that are both exciting and contemporary. He tunes into colour, light and atmosphere with a vision that is intense and flamboyant or subtle and restrained.
He says: `Being out in the elements gives a sense of urgency to making a painting. It makes you decisive - the aim is to create a record of an experience.' His assured and robust use of oil paint captures the feeling of a place as well as the delicate and fleeting qualities of flowers.
Ordinary objects are made interesting under his gaze so that we notice elegance and beauty in unexpected subjects. This collection reminds us that scrutinising the world around us remains one of the most powerful subjects for an artist.
