About
Andrew Hewkin has travelled the world to paint for the last 46 years visiting over 90 countries . He has had over 50 one man exhibitions in London , New York, Los Angeles, Vienna, Munich, Zagreb , Cape Town, Marbella, St Paul de Vence, and regularly in Barbados. These new paintings record his recent travels over the last twelve months which include The South of France, Australia, Mustique and Mallorca . His constant fascination with ‘light’ and ‘colour ‘ capture moods and feelings often missed in contemporary art. As with the Renaissance and the Pre-Raphaelites he adopts a similar process to the formation of his paintings and the science of colour to capture ‘tropical’ and ‘Mediterranean’ sunlight in particular. He is also fascinated by the ‘written word ‘which often give way to clues and the construction of his titles. All elements are combined to give the viewer a feeling of ‘moments of hedonistic reminiscence ‘ and the desire to be part of the setting portrayed. These paintings are more than a memory but more of a total experience.
