About

Reading will be focussed on one text: ‘A Holey Curiosity’ (anonymous) published in Baedan 3: Journal of Queer Time Travel (2015) which is “an exploration and interrogation—with some help from Copi, Michel Foucault, and Samuel Delany—of the ‘coming out’ of the early gay liberation movement, and its relationship to identity and time”. Within the text are excerpts from Samuel Delaney’s ‘Coming/Out and Michel Foucault’s interview ‘Friendship is a way of life’.

The discussion and readings will focus on the questions brought up within Ababri’s work relating to the idea of ‘coming out’ and the way in which the artist treats time in his work through the collaging of different histories and experiences.

Ideally texts will be read in advance but this is not essential as excerpts will be read aloud together during the session. For those who feel comfortable to do so, poppers will be offered at the start of the evening as an experimental means of queering the reading.

Texts will be distributed via Eventbrite following sign up to the event.
