Radical Terrains is a collaborative exhibition at Centrespace Gallery, Bristol, by a group of south-west artists; focused on showing works in varying stages of development, celebrating the rebellious act of creation and sharing the journey, untethered from a prescribed destination.

Folk/ Ritual/ Humor/ Occult/ Costume/ Practical/ Absurd/ Materiality/ Uncanny/ Magic

A multidisciplinary artist and designer. Her work draws on folk culture, archival collections, vehicular maintenance and  the occult. Her intuitive working practice holds ritual, and the language of materially at its core, calling the old ways into the contemporary to create incongruous and comic tableaus.

GEORGIE BARNES

Environment/ Radical /Body/ Empathy/ Elemental/ Sensuality/ Integrate/ Ground/ Energetic/ Portal

A multi-disciplinary fine artist, mostly specialising in earth/body works. Using photography and video to document their performative interactions with the landscape, they intend to transcend Western perceptions of nature and integrate the self authentically with the environment and Earth. Their work is rooted in ideologies of ancient cultures, queer ecology and eco-feminism.

ELLIOT COFFIN

Sustainability/ Recycling/ Colour/ Print/ Sculpture/ Wood/ Illustration/ Abstraction/ Paint/ Fun/ Interaction

A contemporary artist and maker who creates vibrant, playful, multi-part pieces articulating an internal language and creating a dialogue between themselves and their external environment. Within their work natural canvases of wood are juxtaposed with imagery formed by abstracted mark making, colour, pattern, graphics, anatomical or mechanical illustration.

EMMA HOUSLEY

Wild/ Swimming/ Abstract Landscape/ Sense of Place/ Contemporary/ Abstract

A painter whose work reflects a deep rooted romanticism and sense of nostalgia. Although abstract, many of her works refer to well loved places, drawn from memory, in a flurry of mark making and rich colour. Many of her works contain almost figurative elements that refer to the body and reflect an interest in how we perceive and experience sensation. Studying an MA at Bath Spa University this year, Emma intends to continue to explore the complexity of what it is to be human with all its joys and losses. And how to create work that is emotionally honest and vivid.

SARAH GAY

Traditional/ Enamel/ Folk Art/ Bold/ Outsider/ Graphic/ Tactile/ Accessible/ Familiar/ New

A contemporary folk artist and printmaker within the boating community. Working with reclaimed and available materials and inspired by the world around her, within this collection they are showing both woodcut prints and ornate metal ware, installed as a collection of items representative of the sanctuary we build around us.
