Electronic Sheep unveils two social/political tapestries, commissioned by Brent Council and First Fortnight and The Arts Council of Ireland, respectively, that have never before been displayed together.

About

Electronic Sheep's recently received Faculty Knowledge Exchange Award from Middlesex University has facitlitaed this Exhibition ‘PUBLIC ART: ELECTRONIC SHEEP TAPESTRIES' in the impressive Atrium building at the University. 'The Kilburn Tapestries' and 'Notifications Off' were created to work as a pair and have garnered widespread acclaim for their compelling stories and intricate knit detail.

In addition to the Tapestries on show there are 3 Art Films — a Knitted Film I and II — collaborations with Electronic Sheep and artist Cliona Harmey and a Knitted Film III — an Electronic Sheep collaboration with Film Maker and Middlesex alumna Nancy Singh.

THE KILBURN TAPESTRIES’ AND ‘NOTIFICATIONS OFF’ by Helen Delany and Brenda Aherne {AKA Electronic Sheep} are oversized Knitted Triptychs, both sized at 325cm x 135cm.

‘The Kilburn Tapestries’ commissioned by Brent Council
This tapestry represents a social and economic commentary on space and place and articulates an exchange of knowledge between the artists, the ‘London Irish’ creatives, Kilburn/Brent Borough, and the city of Dublin/Ireland. It will be on loan from the Brent Museum, London for the Middlesex University Exhibition. Brent Museum and Brent Council are key partners. The National College of Art & Design, Dublin (NCAD) have also supported this project in celebrating Electronic Sheep's practice with their recent solo exhibition at the NCAD Gallery in 2021-22.

‘Notifications Off’ commissioned by First Fortnight, Ireland and The Arts Council of Ireland. By examining changing perceptions about the common experience of mental health, this work aims to raise awareness and emphasises discussions of prejudice and discrimination. This is a knowledge exchange between First Fortnight Mental Health Charity, Electronic Sheep and Middlesex University. It will be on loan from First Fortnight – a charity that challenges mental health prejudice through arts and cultural action.  ‘Notifications Off’ aims to open up a conversation around mental health and focuses on the positive. It depicts places, people and objects that bring happiness, particularly in times of sadness. It also portrays activities that improve mental health and day to day life. It is a colourful, fun, joyous, surreal art piece.
