About
The NewBridge Project presents Promises from Paradise: an exhibition with new commissions by the artists Rebeca Romero and Igor Tavares. The artists developed a collaborative research exploring themes of ancestral knowledge, cultural identity, belonging, community building, and potential futures, resulting in new works using various mediums such as textiles, ceramics, sound, and performance.
Departing from discussions around community healers in the Global South, Rebeca and Igor debated the challenges presented by contemporary Western societies in the search for ultimate wellbeing: can we ever achieve it from where we stand?
Continuing to build on the five-year framework proposed for Blazing New Worlds, Promises from Paradise explores ideas around Practices of Care, asking questions such as ‘Who taught you about care and how do you pass it on?’ and ‘What does the future of care may look like?’. The project looks into the healing potential of everyday rituals, reflects on the role technology plays in the quest for spiritual experiences, and proposes means to achieve that desired connection with ourselves and with the world.
