Precocious Lands

About

16 undergraduates will introduce their work through Precocious Lands, the first exhibition from the Precocious Collective. The idea of attempting to strive for a desire too early or from a great distance, then the consequences and questions arising from this will be explored in a myriad of differing forms and techniques. Amoung the works on display is Axelle, a portrait by the figurative painter Janette Staton. Her direct, penetrating gaze posits us into an awkwardness, withnessing her posture as an adult. Kevin Fitzpatrick's practice involves extracting documentary film footage of events concerning his habits and life. In What the Duck am I doing? we see Kevin languid and ponderous, wondering on the uncertain career choice of becoming an artist. The short film shows him adrift in a lake, speeded up to a comical extent, especially for our viewing. The wait and impatience are evidently unbearable.
