Using numerous models, plans, photographs, films and other contemporary documents, the exhibition shows planning and building during National Socialist rule from 1933 to 1945.
About
It examines building and biographical continuities and ruptures up to the present. In doing so, it refers not only to the German Reich but also to the occupied territories in Eastern Europe and draws comparisons with other countries during this period. The racist practices of inclusion and exclusion, which were highly charged ideologically and propagandistically, determined who was allowed to live and how – and who had to die and how.
The show is based on the results of a research project commissioned by the BMWSB and responsibly supervised by the Independent Historical Commission and the curatorial team. In addition, the Akademie der Künste offers a programme of events with a daily film series (documentaries and artist films from 1961 to 2019), concerts, discussions and readings, as well as guided tours, staged readings and activities for children, young people and adults.
