Are two minds better than one when it to comes to creating art? Do the collaborations achieve more or less than individual works? This duo show from artists Steve Sutton and Jack Dickinson enables the viewer to explore these issues and contribute to the debate.
About
This is an exciting opportunity to see the results of the collaboration between artists Steve Sutton and Jack Dickinson. In recent months the artists, who are both based at Castlefield New Art Spaces: Warrington, have spent some time working together and exchanging ideas. The outcome is three new collaborative works which incorporate sculpture, drawing and painting, as well as a selection of works created individually.
Jack Dickinson
Jack Dickinson’s artistic practice explores the space between abstract and figurative art, making use of continuous lines, geometric patterns, and esoteric symbolism. Within the abstraction, however, there are recurring familiar images such as figures, nature, and architecture. These repeated motifs have become part of a wider visual vocabulary that he draws upon to create meaning in his work. Commonly using ink, charcoal, paint (oil, emulsion & gouache), photography and collage. Key influences on his work are Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring & Willem De Kooning. He also draws upon the world’s religions to infuse his work with deeper esoteric meaning.
Steve Sutton
Steve Sutton’s practice has become increasingly low carbon. He demonstrates an intervention in the trajectory toward climate breakdown by creating a challenging dialogue with the viewer. He explores themes of environmental pressure, tension and balance between humans and the natural world by using many sustainably sourced materials.
