Wen-Hsi creates a series of porcelain works based on handmade sculptural porcelain spoons, fingerprints, chicken feet and traditional Chinese characters to explore tension of cross-cultural identity, between the East and the West.
About
Wen-Hsi Harman (1984- ) is a Taiwanese ceramic artist, based in Bristol. She also is the member of the international academy of ceramics (IAC).
Her ceramic practice investigates the concept of ‘in-betweenness’. Living away from her homeland gives her a clearer perspective of the culture in which she grew up. These experiences have provided a platform from which she can address cross-cultural questions.
“ Porcelain is precious, it is a luxury, it is satisfyingly tactile in characteristic, it is a historical material that connects between the East and the West. I am grateful to work with this clay. ”
