On Friday 13th May Block 336 will present the first solo exhibition of work by resident studio artist Elysia Byrd.
About
In PODS, POM POMS AND OTHER SOUVENIRS, between the bamboo stalks and saccharine-coloured fluffy ‘tree tops’, glimpses of painted worlds are caught. The painted worlds accumulate icons that seem to be sucked out of this world and then spat back out in different formations. The ‘trees’ stand like guardians of this imagined forest space that is made up of various anthropomorphic totems. Glossy mounds sit plumply between the thin bamboo shoots. All of these objects are waiting to be collected, cut down or copied and transported to the local tourist market where they masquerade as genuine.
