Piercing the Sky is an installation by homeless artists based in Oxford made in collaboration with artist Jon Lockhart.
Beginning with Turner’s iconic painting The High Street (1810), recently acquired by The Ashmolean Museum, the artists embarked on a journey moving through light and dark, past and present, cloisters and spires in order to consider, capture and articulate their experiences of living in Oxford today.
Using traditional materials and new media, the project championed collaboration and conversation, and the finished work reflects this; an exciting, original and multi-faceted response to Turner’s painting, an image that still resonates today
This project was delivered in partnership with the Ashmolean Museum as part of Art in Crisis; a series of events designed to open a window on artists at work in Crisis Skylight studios across the UK.
