Thai choreographer Pichet Klunchun unpicks the classical forms of khon while embracing the spirit and soul oof this traditional Thai dance.

About

In “No. 60” Klunchun examines the 59 poses in the Thai ‘Theppanom’ canon (which all Thai classical dancers acquire by rote-learning) and generates six new principles that undergird the 700-year-old system of movements and gestures. In an abstract setting freed from convention, Klunchun proposes new forms, accompanied by detailed notes and hand-drawn diagrams. With “No. 60” Klunchun unfixes the rigidity of tradition, paving the way for future trajectories and readings of the art form.
