About

Following the success of recent exhibition, 'On Blood: A Portrait of the Artist', The Cob Gallery and Guts for Garters have extended the opportunity to purchase work from a man whose decision to live outside the status quo has led him to be both admired and exhibited. Select items from Doherty's work and life will be available to the public including his iconic military jackets, notebooks, and his collaboration with Amy Winehouse; the blood painting, Ladylike. These items were not priced or for sale in On Blood due to the difficulty in pricing such personal work and belongings. However, due to an unprecedented interest, this work has been presented to the open market for the first time, allowing fans and collectors alike to determine the price. Doherty's artistic production is driven by a desire to spurn convention in favor of a bohemian ideal. It is a combination that has seen him become the center of an enduring public fascination. The tabloid press, documentary makers, and popular culture blogs have all peered in, offering varying accounts of what they wanted to see; yet the most sincere indictment of this well known figure is the one he offers of himself. In this auction Doherty offers up some of his most personal belongings including a bureau with inscribed messages carved and in blood, and notebooks with original workings of famous lyrics. The paintings up for auction also chart Doherty's close artistic relationships. A percentage of all sales will go to the Amy Winehouse foundation.
